nocowardsoul answered your question: Scott Lynch’s latest LJ update hints at three “Very Neat Things” he can’t announce yet
Well. there’s something he mentioned on Reddit - tinyurl.com/bndwaq3
Quote:
”[…] there is one major non-Bastards work coming down the pipe sooner rather than later. I’m contracted for it, actually, and can’t talk about it yet.”
That sounds very interesting. So this might be one of the three things - assuming that the release date of The Republic of Thieves is another one, that leaves one thing to guess?
Thanks for the link, nocowardsoul!
The Orion Boooks website currently lists The Republic of Thieves with a publication date in October 2012.
Here’s what the product page looks like:
I don’t check it every day so I don’t know when this happened. Nothing on the Gollancz blog about it, either.
This is coherent with what was announced on the Gollancz blog in January, but just in case, I’ll wait until Scott himselft says something.
fyi- it went up at the beginning of may. (i don’t check every day, but i do check fairly often and i saw that may 7, and then promptly IMed the bff. lord only knows how i would keep track of things if google didn’t save all my chats.) (i do check the gollancz blog at least once a week though, and i would consider an announcement on there official, so y’all will know if they say something. it’s gone up and come down from their product pages several times now though, which is why i don’t consider an announcement on there to be truly flailworthy.)
That’s what happens when you are offline for almost two months :-D

maybe a graphic adaptation? or something unrelated to the series. gollancz has RoT back on their site, so hopefully we’ll get a date sooooon!
Ooooh, a graphic novel adaptation would be really nice indeed… provided they choose the artist well (I’m picky when it comes to art; I found the Ender’s Game / Ender’s Shadow comics rather disappointing for instance) and don’t make it a word-for-word, scene-by-scene copy of the novel (again, a mistake that was made with the Ender’s Game comics).
Upcoming4.me announced that The Bastard and the Knives (which contains two novellas taking place before The Lies of Locke Lamora, entitled The Mad Baron’s Mechanical Attic and The Choir of Knives) will be published by Gollancz after The Republic of Thieves. The two novellas were among the ones that Subterranean was supposed to publish - I’m not sure if that’s still happening, and the only reference to them I could find on Subterranean’s website was this one in 2007).
scott talks a bit about it in the comments here, but basically: this website is bullshit, but the novella IS a thing that we will eventually get our mitts on. as with republic of thieves though: if you don’t hear it from scott, consider it an iffy proposition at best.
Thanks for the clarification and the link to Scott’s comments. The upcoming4me article does mention that the release date it initially announced is wrong - in any case, I’ve learnt not to believe anybody except publishers and authors when it comes to release dates :-D - but it does look at though the book is a real thing (Scott doesn’t correct that fact, although it appears, from his comments, that it shouldn’t have been announced yet).
What I wonder, however, is whether it is the same book as the novellas collection that was supposed to be initially published by Subterranean, or whether the deal with Subterranean fell through and Gollancz is going to publish the novellas instead. Or perhaps they will still be published by Subterranean first and republished by Gollancz later?

Last bullet point:
“I wish I could tell you a Very Neat Thing. Actually, I have three specific Very Neat Things I am kinda dying to announce. One is good to spill the beans on, one is nearly so, and one is still under publicity embargo. I’d kinda like to be able to spill more than one simultaneously, though, so let’s hope I get some directions this coming week.”
I really, really hope that one of those things is the release date of Republic of Thieves.
I have no idea what the other two could be. Maybe something about The Bastards and the Knives? Movie adaptation news? (I believe the rights were sold soon after The Lies of Locke Lamora was published, but of course that never means much.)
Any ideas?
“Bug,” he gasped. “Bug! Get up here and push his legs in for me. His warm humors are all snuffed out. Let’s get a rhythm going and maybe we can rekindle them. Gods, if he lives I swear I’ll get ten books on physik and memorize every single one.”
Bug clambered out of the water and began pumping Locke’s legs, moving them in and out one at a time, while Jean alternately pressed on Locke’s stomach, pounded on his chest, and slapped him on the cheeks. “Come on, gods damn it,” Jean muttered. “Be stubborn, you skinny little—”
"The Lies of Locke Lamora, Chapter 10 by Scott Lynch.
Did you hear that, Jean, did you hear that? That was the sound of my heart breaking for you.

Fantasy author Scott Lynch is interviewed. The best question and answer (I think) is question thirteen.
